Proverbs 15:18
“A hot-tempered person creates conflict everywhere they go — but the patient one actually calms things down.”

Solomon writes this as almost a journalistic observation: it describes what you can see in any relationship, any workplace, any family. The wrathful person doesn’t just have personal struggles — they create ripple effects of conflict around them. The patient person does the opposite. The word translated ‘appeaseth’ means ‘quiets’ or ‘silences’ — suggesting that patience has an active, peacekeeping function, not just a passive one. For a new believer, this is one of the most immediately applicable verses in the Bible. You don’t have to wait for a dramatic test of faith to practice it — you’ll have the opportunity today, in whatever room you walk into.

Think about the last conflict or tense moment you were part of — at home, at work, online, wherever. Did you stir it up or calm it down? No condemnation — just honest reflection. Then decide: what’s one way you want to respond differently next time?

God, I know there are moments when I’ve been the one stirring things up rather than calming them down. I don’t always mean to, but I feel things strongly and they come out fast. Help me become someone who quiets conflict instead of creating more of it. I want to be that person.
